Mental Health Services differ among the 16 CCC member clinics from highly developed and integrated systems of care, to co-located services onsite, to referrals to outside providers. In addition, nine of the CCC member clinics are participating in the Mental Health and Primary Care Integration Project, funded by the Mental Health Services Act (MHSA) and the County of San Diego, and managed by the CCC.
The practice of integrating mental health and primary care services is gaining widespread popularity as it improves access to mental health services to unserved and underserved populations, and clinical outcomes for both mental health and physical health issues.
Through the Mental Health and Primary Care Integration Project, the nine participating clinics provide therapy and medication management services for up to one year for clients who are unfunded for mental health services and have a social security number. Specific treatment components serve;
- children with severe emotional disturbances;
- adults and older adults with serious mental illness; and
- adults and older adults with moderate, uncomplicated depression.
In addition, the Senior Peer Promotora Program provides outreach and engagement activities to older adults.
Many of the 16 member clinics have mental health professionals on site, including psychiatrists, psychologists, MFTs, and LCSWs. Clinics primarily see clients who have depression associated with chronic diseases such as diabetes and asthma; women with post-partum depression; clients with depression and other disorders associated with HIV and AIDS; and immigrant clients with post traumatic stress disorder. CCC member clinics strive to meet the diverse needs of the populations they serve. Providers are specially trained in the behaviors, attitudes and policies that recognize, respect and value the uniqueness of individuals of various ethnic and racial groups.
