Emergency Preparedness
Since 2002, the CCC has worked with San Diego community clinics to prepare them for disasters. CCC clinics in each major region of the County have developed policies and procedures, and have received training, so that they can assist patients and community members should a disaster occur.
They have assigned roles and responsibilities to clinic leadership for their incident command system, established patient overflow locations, upgrades their electrical services to allow the clinic to use a generator during a disaster, and purchased small portable generators and other supplies and equipment. The CCC works closely with the County of San Diego and the California Primary Care Association (CPCA) to continue to plan and provide emergency preparedness technical assistance to clinics statewide.
The most recent emergency preparedness project links to two other CCC initiatives in order to develop a mental health telemedicine response network in the event of a disaster. Funded through the California Department of Health Services (DHS), the CCC will identify mental health resources and enhance our existing telemedicine network to enable mental health services to be made available at multiple clinic sites via videoconferencing in a disaster.
