Policy & Advocacy
The CCC provides leadership in developing a unified health policy for its member clinics. The CCC monitors legislation and frames strategic initiatives regarding local, state and federal legislation to protect/enhance access to care for medically underserved communities. Another important role of the CCC is to foster grassroots collaboration with community-based organizations to enhance understanding of the valuable services and needs of community health centers.
The CCC works closely with the California Primary Care Association (CPCA) to join advocacy efforts with other clinic consortia and health centers throughout the state.CCC and its member clinics have developed a weekly report for Channel 8 to talk about the most prevalent health issues in the clinics countywide. The concept for the piece is "What's Goin' Around?" – basically getting the pulse of the most common illnesses or other health issues clinics are seeing countywide. CCC staff send out a weekly e-mail asking physicians the following question: “What are the top 3-5 diagnoses/ health issues you saw in your clinic over the past week?” A physician from one clinic from each major region of the county is surveyed weekly, and clinics are alternated so that physicians will only be contacted every other week. When the piece runs on-air it is accompanied by the clinic’s logo and a picture of the medical director.
