Grant Writer

Reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer:  Develops and coordinates grant funded programs for agency.  Researches public and private grant agencies and foundations to identify other sources of funding.  Serves as a liaison to city, federal, and community agencies.  Organizes solicitation drives for pledges of ongoing support from individuals, corporations, and foundation to contribute to special funds.  Supervision of some special projects may be required.

Skills:  Demonstrated ability to use the English language well, both verbally and in writing; use communication technology on a daily basis as it is developed, including email, word and data processing, voice mail, teleconferencing, time and data organization, and others. Ability to establish and maintain harmonious and productive working relationship, both in the community and with MHCS staff and management; synthesize information from diverse source, and research, visualize, and articulate new programs and ideas both verbally and in writing; work productively without direct supervision and to exercise independent judgment when required; work within deadlines and with multiple priorities and distractions.  Willingness to embrace the mission, vision, goals, and objectives of MHCS and to participate positively in their development and implementation at all levels of the organization.  

Education:  High School Diploma or GED equivalency.  Bachelor’s Degree in a related field or the equivalent level of work and/or life experience. 

Experience: At least one year of experience in a community based organization.  Knowledge of community based primary care, the needs of the medically underserved, and/or rural health care needs preferred.  Experience in grant writing preferred.
